Colin Walker: Whose stuff is it anyway?

  • robdiana · 1 year ago
To be honest, this is a problem for FriendFeed to deal with. Users have the right to use the services however they want. People's use of a tool can be influenced by what other tools do with the information, but if a user is going to stop sharing because it has been shared "enough" on FriendFeed, then I have a problem with it. FriendFeed should be aggregating the shares from each service, like all reader shares together and all stumbles together. FriendFeed has caused the problem, not the user. The user can choose not to share certain services as well if they feel it does not add value.

The issue you mentioned about duplicates on FriendFeed is exactly what I'm not liking about the service. It may be different in other parts of the world, but at least for me, most of the stuff gets shared via Twitter, Plurk or Google Shared Items anyway, that yet another shared item on FriendFeed is just needless and unncessary.

To me it seems logical to get as much exposure as possible, but in doing so, duplicates appear which are usually frowned upon in any sense. Undecided on this one. Antione´s solution is very good, linking all of the duplicates together.. they do however still exist, as you said a mashup of data. If it can´t be solved, then we will just need to be happy with the increased exposure :-)

    Hi
i feel that the idea that do we share things differently based on where we know the share will be seen? seems a natural one
i have been thinking on this and my take on this is that it matters how we like to share where we are. or who we are with . on the net this might not be as clear cut as the out side world but each of us have some ideas who is to be in our in circle and where to take the guards up.. yes some mistakes will be made yet with time i feel that the software wll be perfected or at least that is what we wish for

" Alexander reinforced" who is he. Is he asocial service. I don't recognize him. Thanks you make my job easier by providing a link about him. I agree that the linear presentation of Friend feed will not scale when the same information is re blogged through multiple channels by multiple persons. Anyway thanks for sharing this in your post with us.
