They still get high traffic but lose the personal sense of trust and consistent viewpoint on the industry of which they are focussed. This makes the medium-sized blogs the most infulential in changing ideas.

- Richard
Richard Wilson
http://influenceguru.com

Re: Whose stuff is it anyway?

The issue you mentioned about duplicates on FriendFeed is exactly what I'm not liking about the service. It may be different in other parts of the world, but at least for me, most of the stuff gets shared via Twitter, Plurk or Google Shared Items anyway, that yet another shared item on FriendFeed is just needless and unncessary.

Re: A brand is a promise.

I would like to think that my personal brand is a promise to everyone i meet. I have found that blogging is a great way to figure out and expand upon your brand. There is so much content out there, so depending on what you like you can comment on certain things with the same consistent stand or writing style. Not only will you figure out what your brand is, but you will also establish one online with everyone that reads your posts of comments. At www.Brand-Yourself.com we aim to establish a student’s personal brand early so they can get the job of their dreams and love what they do, so both the organizational brand and their personal brand coincide. Every company should have a process for ideation, you cant force someone to be entrepreneurial. For more actionable tips to strengthen your personal brand on the web please go to our blog at http://blog.brand-yourself.com.

Re: Whose stuff is it anyway?

To be honest, this is a problem for FriendFeed to deal with. Users have the right to use the services however they want. People's use of a tool can be influenced by what other tools do with the information, but if a user is going to stop sharing because it has been shared "enough" on FriendFeed, then I have a problem with it. FriendFeed should be aggregating the shares from each service, like all reader shares together and all stumbles together. FriendFeed has caused the problem, not the user. The user can choose not to share certain services as well if they feel it does not add value.

Re: Colin Walker » Are we too demanding?

I have to agree with Felix as well. There're a lot of people saying they won't use Chrome, but it IS in beta which isn't MEANT to be "ready". I've downloaded it, found that there's stuff I still need from Firefox that I can't live without yet, but that doesn't mean I've uninstalled Chrome or announced "I'll never use it!". I'll just check by in a couple of months or when someone blogs about it!

Re: Colin Walker » Are we too demanding?

Sure, fair point, Colin.

Re: Colin Walker » Lessons learnt or common sense?

Kyle,

Thanks for the comment and, I must say, I've been reading some of your recent posts with great interest.

I'm not sure how often I'll be posting at the moment but it will be more a case of posting when I've really got something to say rather than due to a misguided need to make sure there's new content.

Re: Colin Walker » Lessons learnt or common sense?

Being another with addictive personality disorder I have been glancing down around the "C" area every time I open Google reader... hoping for a Colin Walker post.. and there it was.

I can sympathize with the sliding in and out of needing/wanting social media. For a variety of reasons, I just made a huge (for me) life/schedule change and flipped my schedule around so that I now write/interweb/exercise late at night instead of early in the morning.

Has social media "lost its spark"? That's a very interesting question... I'm tempted to say no, but I'm very open to hearing out the other side. But then again, I'm a unrepentant optimist when it comes to the interwebs!

Thanks very much for including me in the list above, very honored to sit on such a list.

And hope to see you round the digital way!
